Chittenden County Weekly Traffic Alert CHITTENDEN TRAFFIC ALERT *****
Burlington Cherry Street is closed to westbound traffic between St. Paul Street and South Winooski Avenue during the week to allow for work on stormwater systems and installation of a cell tree. Two way traffic will be restored on the weekends, and this project should be completed by May 22. Due to the University of Vermont's graduation ceremonies, on Friday, May 17 from 7:00 p.m. through Sunday, May 18 at 8:00 p.m., University Place will be closed from Colchester Avenue to Main Street and South Prospect Street will be closed from College Street to the University Health Center entrance. In addition, on Sunday, May 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., South Prospect Street will be closed from Colchester Avenue to Main Street and College Street will be closed from South Prospect Street to South Williams Street. Charlotte The Quinlan Covered Bridge on Spear Street is closed to traffic through July. Motorists must seek alternate routes. Colchester Motorists should be aware of work on gravel roads throughout the town during the week. Crosswalk painting may also begin next week and traffic control will be present where necessary. Essex The installation of a new traffic signal and left turn lane at the intersection of Sand Hill Road and Vermont Route 117 (River Road) will cause minor traffic delays. Traffic control will be present, the speed limit has been reduced to 30 miles per hour and fines are doubled. This project is expected to be completed by mid-October. Hinesburg Work on the Starksboro-Hinesburg Route 116 road improvement project this week involves road patching followed by milling and paving beginning in Starksboro and moving north to Hinesburg. Motorists should plan on lengthy traffic delays during milling and paving operations and allow for extra time in their travel plans. Traffic control will be present. Work will be performed on weekdays during daytime hours, although Saturday work may be necessary occasionally. This project is expected to end in late August. Interstate 89 – between Waterbury and Richmond Exits - Northbound Road construction on this project begins Monday in the northbound lane working from Waterbury toward Richmond. There will be daily lane closures, and delays are expected. Traffic control will be present, and the speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph in the work zone and fines are doubled. The completion date for this project is July 26, 2013. Interstate 89 – Richmond - Southbound The passing lane of I-89 southbound between mile marker 73.5 and 74.5 in Richmond is closed to allow for ledge removal. The speed limit is reduced to 55 miles per hour, and motorists should expect delays when ledge scaling is taking place. The completion date for this project is the end of May. Interstate 89 – Milton - Northbound Maintenance on the northbound Bridge #80 at mile marker 101 in Milton will reduce travel to one lane. The speed limit is reduced to 50 miles per hour, and motorists should plan for delays. Shelburne From Sunday through Thursday night within Shelburne Village limits, there will be shoulder work as well as final paving and line striping, weather permitting, to include main line and abutting side drives. Traffic control will be present. On Sunday night, weather permitting, there will be bridge joint work on the Laplatte River Bridge. South Burlington On Monday, May 13, Hayes Avenue may be reduced to one lane and the intersection of Kinsington Street and Hayes Avenue will be closed to allow work on the stormwater project. From Tuesday through Friday, Hayes Avenue will be done to one lane from Kinsington Street to Hinesburg Road. Traffic control will be present. Winooski Sidewalk and bike path construction on Route 15 eastbound near the Interstate 89 Exit 15 area will reduce traffic to one lane through mid-May. Countywide Motorists should be aware of bridge sweeping and litter pick up on the interstate and along county roads. Drivers are asked to please use caution. The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission would like to remind all motorists in highway work zones to: * Reduce Speed * Obey all Workers Holding Signs * Watch out for People and Machines, and * Give 'Em a Brake...when you encounter a work zone.
